Intro to Rock Climbing (Indoor): Bouldering 101
Rock climbing has become super popular in the last few years — gyms are opening left and right across the world (there are now 4 in Austin!) and climbing will be in the 2020 Olympics! Bouldering — climbing with no ropes or harnesses, but on shorter walls — is a form of climbing that is perfectly accessible to beginners and a fun full body & mind sport. My Bouldering 101 Course will walk you and a friend through the history, rating systems, and techniques of climbing. You'll learn basic footwork and technique, how to read a route and mentally prepare for a climb, and how to train to advance your skills. Best of all, you'll be introduced to one of the most fun and popular new sports — a sport I've been practicing for years and still love more and more every day. All you'll need to bring is yourself and some clothes that are comfortable to move in. You will need to pay for the cost of a day pass and rental shoes at whatever gym you decide to go to; prices vary.
I'm a fairly recent Austin transplant, originally from Portland, who loves rock climbing & the outdoors, graphic design & photography, cycling, and eating tacos constantly. Let's work on something together!
