Fondant, with its silky, smooth finish, and picture-perfect color, it’s the cake icing of choice when you want elicit “ooohs” and “aaahs” from your guests. It can be whimsical or elegant, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: At the end of the day, it’s basically play-dough made of sugar. Yep, it’s true! And you can make it yourself with just a microwave, rolling pin, and three basic ingredients available at any grocery store. You don’t have to be a cake boss to master this technique. Come on over, and I’ll show you how.
In this class for beginners, I’ll teach you the basic recipe and technique for making your own delicious (and easy to use) marshmallow fondant. We’ll learn to color the fondant, practice rolling out a sheet and covering a cake, and using various tools to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind decorations.
Finally, you’ll use the fondant that we’ve created to cover and decorate a fabulous mini-cake that you can take home to wow your friends and family.

Hi. I’m Mia. I fell in love with making things at a young age, and was lucky to land a career where I could embrace my true passion: learning, mastering, and sharing my skills with others. For seven years, I worked as a high school art and design teacher, acquiring a Zen Master-like patience from activities like teaching teenage boys to sew and crochet.
During my free time, I love helping friends tackle their own creative projects, from planning baby showers to renovating kitchens. My craft addiction culminated in a madcap decision to DIY every part of my own wedding: the flowers, favors, invitations, cake, even my dress.
I believe the ability to learn something new comes from having the freedom to ask questions, try things out, and make mistakes. I love creating that space for people, and invite you to join me in one of my classes. You’ll always go home with something fabulous, but more importantly, I hope you leave excited and confident to tackle your next D.I.Y. adventure.
