Journals for Two with Heather O'Hara of Burdock & Bramble
We'll spend three hours together in this private workshop as you and a partner each bind a hardcover 5" x 8" book, perfect for use as a journal or sketchbook. I will guide you through each step as you learn to create professional cloth-covered hard covers, stitch the pages for strength and durability, and put everything together to make a pair of beautiful books to take home. To schedule a private workshop for two, just send me a message. I have weekday, evening, and weekend times available. I can also arrange a private workshop for just you, or for a larger group. In the workshop, you can choose from a selection of book cloth and end paper colors to personalize your books. I’ll provide all the materials for the books and all the tools that you’ll need while in the class. We can also go over what materials to get for future book projects and where to get them. This introductory bookbinding workshop is a great gift to share with a friend or loved one. I will tailor the class to fit your needs and interests, and not only do you each take home a book, but you get to spend time together making your books in my workshop, with a cup of tea and something sweet to go with it!
Hi, I'm Heather, and I run Burdock & Bramble, a printing and hand-bookbinding business in Baltimore. I split my time between making hand-carved, letterpress-printed block prints and teaching public and private book arts classes in and around Baltimore city. I love making books, and even more, I love sharing how to make books. This is my simple approach to binding: everyone can learn to do it, and you can get great results with practice and a basic set of reasonably-priced hand tools. I've been binding for over ten years with students of all ages and from all places, and I'm looking forward to binding with you!
