About Your Host

The August Axel Jewelry Studio is a creative workshop in Venice Beach, CA. The Studio and course offerings were designed to serve a range of skills and interests from talented tinkerers to advanced artists. Our goal is to provide solid and safe bench-instruction, combined with hands-on practice, so artists may operate safely, independently and successfully. COURSES: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Soldering. Bezel Setting. Tube Setting. Flush Setting. Prong Setting. Metalsmithing. Cold-Connections. Wire Wrapping. Knotting. Private or Group Lessons. And more. INSTRUCTORS: As Owner and Senior Instructor, Christy Sears brings a wealth of knowledge to the bench. With 15+ years of jewelry soldering and metal fabrication, endless patience and a healthy sense of humor, she creates a warm and welcoming learning environment. Not only does she believe in teaching "how", but "why" and this has made all of the difference to her students. All of the August Axel Jewelry Studio instructors create the same atmosphere, so students may reach their goals.

What we'll do

Ready to tackle a brand new skill or take your current jewelry arts to the next level? This class was created so students may become comfortable with a torch. (Yep, a torch! But don't worry! There’s nothing to be nervous about...) In 3.5-hours, the curriculum covers the “how” and “why” of jewelry soldering by combining an overview of the tools, techniques and process + hands-on practice. Each student will use 2 different metals to fabricate textured stacking rings, and if time allows, your Instructor will demonstrate a third metal. You should also expect to have fun, meet interesting people and leave with the skills & knowledge to work independently! After taking this class, students have options for growth. Check-out our Bezel Setting Class, Tube Setting, Earrings Workshop and Gold-Fill Workshop. Take one, take all. We love to see our students succeed and grow in the craft. (All of these options are listed on Verlocal) Safety Requirements (No Exceptions): • Closed-toed, low-heeled or no-heeled shoes • Comfortable “play-clothes”. No flowing sleeves or bulky fabrics • Long hair must be worn in a bun or ponytail • Protective eyewear will be provided and must be worn Location: The Studio address will be provided to Students who enroll in the class Tools & Materials: A $25 (max) materials fee will be collected in the Studio. Cash, debit or credit cards accepted. Fancy Nails Alert: Unfortunately, metalsmithing is hard on a manicure. Save your nail-prettifying session for AFTER class. You’ll thank us for the tip! See you soon?
