New to yoga? Now is the time to begin your journey! Learn the basics of alignment, breath, and mental focus of a vinyasa (flow) yoga practice (and a bit of yoga philosophy as well!). Each class will flow through a specific "family"of poses where the proper alignment of postures will be demonstrated and students can practice and ask questions in a workshop-style setting. Build confidence in your practice as you advance through these series of classes! All are welcome to attend donation-based beginner-level classes at Pop Allston this summer. The $10 suggested donation helps your teacher earn a living wage, and allows Pop Allston to serve as a mixed-use space for the local community to enjoy. We sincerely appreciate your generous contributions, which support this program and allow every person to experience yoga’s benefits.
After seven years as a high school English teacher in Chicago Public Schools, I came to yoga to find better work-life balance. After a few weeks of practice, I could see my body changing –I felt leaner, stronger, more flexible –but I could also see the mental effects off my mat: I felt happier, more able to focus, less reactive to events that I would normally mull over for hours. I saw how physical heart opening translated into the realm of personal relationships and made me more open to new experiences. After participating in a Yogi training workshop in the spring of 2014, the seed of teacher training was planted. It seemed like a natural part of my journey –to combine my talent for teaching and my passion for the practice. After moving to Boston in the summer of 2015, I left the classroom for the studio to pursue teaching yoga full time. I believe great teachers always remain students first. I approach my practice with a beginner’s mindset, finding something new each day. I can’t wait to share your beginning with you!
