Introduction to Quilting - Demonstration and Some Hands On
Many small pieces of fabric go into the creation of a single quilt. Many different skills are used to build the quilt, one step at a time. This 2 hour session will demonstrate each element that goes into the creation of a quilt. Is quilting for you? Before you start your fabric stash and buy those cool rulers, take this class, get your hands on that fabric, touch the tools and find out if it’s your new passion! The demonstration will cover these topics: types of quilts; quilting tools; selecting fabrics; the quilt block & drafting; cutting fabric – templates & rulers; using the iron; machine v hand piecing; borders / backs / bindings; the quilt sandwich & basting; hand v machine quilting; labels Following the demonstration, each participant will create a simple 4-patch block by hand or draft a 12 inch block; all materials provided. THOSE WITH CAT ALLERGIES: There are two cats in residence. They will be confined away from the class, but cannot guarantee a cat dander-free environment..
Long before I started quilting, I was drawn to fabric stores: running my hands along the bolts of beautiful fabrics; gawking at the tools and poring over quilt books and magazines. I did succumb and took my first quilting class and discovered my creative outlet. Quilting since 2000, I am a member of the Brooklyn Quilters Guild and meet with my sewing gal pals, The Material Girls each month. I welcome you to my home where you will receive lots of personal attention in a relaxed atmosphere. Join the quilting tribe!
