Do you want to reduce the number of consumer products you buy and increase your control over the ingredients and products you use to clean your home and body? Learning how to create your own soap can do just that!
This workshop provides an overview of what soap is, how it works to clean homes and bodies, and how it is made. Safety in using caustic lye is stressed while participants are able to try making soap for themselves and take some home.
You'll bring home around 7 oz of soap that you make in class and you'll also get a finished bar of soap to use right away, since the handmade soap you just made will need some time to cure before it's ready. You'll also get a FAQ and resources sheet for some tips incase you do decide this will be your new hobby!
Be sure to wear long pants, closed shoes, and a shirt you don't really care for, just in case! All safety and protective materials will be provided.
$30 per person
Note: The exact location will be disclosed once the host has accepted your request.
Kate is a certified nerd, holding a Bachelor's in Materials Science and a Master's in Environmental Engineering. That means she'll talk to you for hours about soap chemistry, if that's your jam, or she'll just make sure you know enough to feel comfortable in class. She's spent plenty of time with science outreach, so she gets that the "fun" part of "science fun" is usually more important.
