Weaving + Craft Beer + Pie @ Hopewell Brewing
Back by popular demand! Join us at Hopewell for an evening weaving workshop. I began weaving in graduate school and fell in love. I've been creating woven wall hangings on my custom designed frame looms for a few years and the possibilities to play with shape, color, and texture are endless! I will be showing you several techniques so you are able to build a weaving unique to you! This gathering is perfect for beginners and no weaving experience is necessary at all! We'll also provide some baked treats and refreshments. WHAT YOU GET A custom made mini loom & toolkit A printed guide An assortment of yarn to use during our time together A two hour lesson One beer A slice of Bang Bang pie! ABOUT THE VENUE Many years ago, the Hopewell Brewing owners met in the idyllic bubble of a midwestern college town. That summer, they set out on a grand adventure across the American West, pitching their tent alongside bears (!) and buffalo. Studded along the journey were numerous craft breweries, names that they'd gotten to know in their college dorms. They collected coasters, cooled their six-packs in streams near the campsites, and became a unit. Now, two of them are married (to each other!) and the other was the best man at the wedding. They finally reunited in Chicago after spending time in Philly, Portland and New York City. With a nod to tradition as well as innovation, they are committed to making the beer that we all want to drink! Unpretentious, fresh, good beer.
I am a Chicago artist and art educator. Inspired by the old sewing circles and expanding on the theme of intimate, creative social gatherings, I created J.Villa Workshop. I am hosting craft events at some of Chicago's most beloved bars, restaurants, coffee houses, boutiques, and cupcake shops. I love utilizing classic, traditional art/craft processes such as; weaving, embroidery, printmaking, and watercolor, and putting a contemporary spin on them to bring you a unique, accessible, and fun learning experience! There's nothing better than gathering with others to make something by hand, learning skills and processes that can be used again and again. At each J.Villa gathering, you will experience a thoughtfully curated event in an inspiring space, hand selected and/or handmade art materials, and enthusiastic guidance through the craft process.
