CREATING COLORFUL SOAP DESIGNS
Come join in the fun as you learn how to swirl, layer and work with a variety of colors in cold process soap. You'll learn from master soapmaker, Back Porch Soap Company CEO and President Marla Bosworth. She has been making cold process soap for 20 years and loves to share her knowledge and experience with you in a fun and relaxed environment. This class is for soapmakers who have the basic knowledge of how to make cold process soap. If you are new at soapmaking and would like to take this class, please also register for the October 24 Cold Process Soapmaking workshop. We'll cover in this advanced class hands-on coloring techniques such as: swirling, layering, embedding and more. By the end of the class you'll understand how to incorporate natural and safe colorants to create vibrant to subtle hues in cold process soap. Students will learn: How to choose complementing color combinations Colors that add dramatic impact - and when to add them Which colorants work in cold process soap - and which ones don't How to mix colorants before adding to soap Tips on how to choose color combinations Creating interesting textures on top to make soaps "uniquely yours" How to keep soap "thin" for swirling How to get soap "thick" for layering Troubleshooting tips that will save you time and money Ways of working with fragrances in soap How to use natural colorants Hohw to use micas, ultramarine and other cosmetic safe colors Each student will take home 10 handmade bars of soap (worth $80 retail). Marla Bosworth is the CEO and President of Back Porch Soap Company. She is a soap and cosmetic formulator who teaches organic and natural skincare workshops throughout the U.S. Marla has been making soap, blending essential oils and natural perfumes as well as formulating cosmetics for 20 years. Marla has more than 30 years of expertise in Retail Sales, Business Development, Strategic Planning, Market Research, Product Development and Marketing She teaches business and cosmetic formulation classes near her home in Boulder, CO, New York City as well as through online seminars and webinars. She has been a guest lecturer at Wellesley College (Wellesley, MA) and the New York Botanical Garden. She also teaches entrepreneurial and beauty startup workshops as well as seminars on how to create natural skincare products at various venues and events. She is a published author, having written several self-published books as well as articles for The Saponifier Magazine. In addition, she has been a guest speaker at the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild Conference in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
