Mixology Class with an Award-Winning Bar Owner
The cocktail resurgence is in full swing. Interest in quality spirits and classic cocktails has been growing exponentially in the last few years. Yet it is very hard to learn more and be completely submerged in this trend. Much of the information online is misleading or just plain wrong. Many cocktail bars get too busy for questions, or–let’s be honest–be a little tight-lipped when it comes to passing down their knowledge. This is where Wisdom’s cocktail classes come into play. Wisdom offers private Mixology Classes at the bar. These classes are great for the novice and intermediate home Mixologist. The two-hour comprehensive class takes place at the main bar and involves liquor and cocktail history, drink technique, and plenty of booze! Questions are always welcome, and the class is easily catered to the guests' specific interests. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm.
Erik Holzherr was born and raised in NYC. He witnessed the beginnings of the cocktail revival that began in Manhattan in the late 1990s. He graduated from the Air Force Academy and spent the following years as an officer specializing in satellites and space launches. He started his bartending experience in Manhattan Beach, LA as a way to take his growing hobby to the next step. He left his career in the military after 14 years to pursue his long-term dream of opening a cocktail lounge. In October 2008, he opened Wisdom- the first dedicated cocktail bar in Washington D.C., as well as the epicenter of gin on the East Coast. Several years later he opened Fruit Bat, followed by Church & State, then Atlas Arcade. In 2014 he established Capital Hospitality Services and launched his consulting career. He has designed cocktail menus and has conducted staff training in the District, Chicago, and most recently Paris, France. In 2015 he opened Bar Wisdom: Art, History, and Mixology—a modern, relevant bartending school designed for both the home enthusiast and the industry professional.
