The Giant Stairs loop is a 4.5 mile hike in the Palisades Interstate Park. The hike starts on the Long Path following the Palisades Cliffs in New Jersey. We'll cross the New York State border and descend the cliffs with great views of NYC and the Hudson River. At the bottom, we'll see Peanut Leap Cascade and a stone ruin built into the side of the cliffs from the early 1900s The property was owned by sculptor/artist, Mary Lawrence-Tonetti, and was designed as an Italian garden to entertain friends from the NYC art world in the beginning of the twentieth century. From there, we head south along the river until we finally reach the Giant Stairs. The Giant Stairs section is a true rock scramble which requires the use of hands for over 1 mile of trail. This can be challenging for those who have never experienced a scramble. After the stairs, we continue along the river and then begin switchbacks to ascend the 600 foot cliffs. Please note, this considered a moderate hike and has an age restriction of 12 years and up. *We'll be meeting at MacDonald 's which is located North of 29 Hugh Grant Circle Zarios. Just follow the Elevated line Half a Block on the Uptown side. The Address is 1982 Westchester Ave. Bronx NY. Meeting Time 8:45 am Leave Time is 9:00 am
