This two day course is your introduction to the skills you need to successfully shoot powerful images in any situation. Students will learn all the controls and functions on their cameras, including basic camera operation (f-stop, shutter speed & ISO), photographic fundamentals and how to produce an intended image. We’ll discuss composition, focus, texture and tone among other stylistic choices. You’ll walk away with a firm understanding of the equipment and how to use it to embrace your artistic vision. - We’ll explain how to utilize the technical aspects of the camera to embrace your unique perspective. - You’ll learn how to read light and manipulate quality, quantity, and direction with tools like reflectors, diffusion and strobes. - We’ll also talk about how to work with your subject: gaining access, giving direction and respecting boundaries. Logisitcs Day 1: Saturday, July 2nd - First we discuss the fundamentals of the camera and lens, breaking it down so it’s simple to understand. - Then we’ll look at a range of inspiring photography to discuss how certain photographic methods were employed. - With iconic images fresh in mind, we’ll head outside to shoot. - After shooting, we’ll return to the studio to go over the photographs and discuss how we used the tools to produce the images. Students go home with an assignment and return on Sunday Day 2: Sunday, July 3rd - We discuss their shooting experience and the resulting images - We edit the images together in Lightroom and Photoshop to give a basic understanding of the developing process and discuss pre-visualization. - We go over workflow, retouching and output to illustrate how these technical tools can be used to execute artistic expression. The objective of this course is to introduce every aspect of the camera so technicalities become 2nd nature and all attention will be on artistically creating the desired image. Please bring your own camera, so we can tailor this workshop to your specific interests.
