Natural Lotion Making Class
This hands-on class is for those who want to learn how to make & customize their own lotion and stop buying store-bought, manufactured lotions that are laden with chemicals, toxins and alcohol. Natural lotion is made with natural oils, butters & other skin-nourishing ingredients like aloe vera; there are no chemicals and nothing that will dry out your skin, so you only need to use a small amount to fully moisturize your skin. You will notice that your skin will become softer & more moisturized over time by switching to natural lotion. We'll cover the following: - the differences between manufactured lotions & natural, homemade ones, including why certain chemicals are added to manufactured lotions & how they are harmful - how to use an online, ingredient checker at ewg.org; this website allows you to check the potential toxicity of ingredients (natural & synthetic) found in personal-care products - the different types of natural lotions and their pros & cons, including how to work with preservatives and make a sunscreen or bug-repellent lotion - the materials needed & where to get them, as well as the lotion recipe and how to adjust it based on your personal preferences - making & customizing your lotion (what I call water-based lotion) with the ingredients that work best for your skin type (e.g. jojoba oil for sensitive skin, coconut milk for dry/damaged skin, lavender essential oil for acne-prone skin) In this class, an informational, ingredient chart is provided so that you can choose the ingredients & customize your lotion based on your skin-care needs. You'll go home with 8 fl oz of lotion, the ingredient chart and a thorough, detailed instructional handout, including all of the information that we'll cover & a list of suppliers. Everything is provided in the class, as well as some snacks & tea. This class lasts about 1 hour & 45 minutes and is available for up to 2 people. Beeswax lip balm making can be added for $15/person & bath bomb making can be added for $20/person. Contact Lindsay if interested and if you have any questions. I hope to meet you soon! Hi, my name is Lindsay. I am the former owner of Blue Dot Organics based out of San Francisco. I taught a variety of large-group classes in the making of soap, candles, lotion, lip balm and various other body and household natural products. I closed this business in the fall of 2014 and traveled abroad with my husband. We returned to Pacifica, California in the fall of 2015 and I began teaching again, but on a smaller scale until May of 2016. My husband was offered a job in Long Beach; so since July of 2016, I have been offering private classes, as well as semi-private classes on my online calendar, for up to 2 people per class on Ocean Blvd. You can enjoy an informative, fun class tailored to you in a relaxed atmosphere. My Soap Making & Teaching Background: I have been making & learning about natural, body-care products since 2012, when I took my first soap-making class with my sister-in-law in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was so fun that I immediately moved on to lotion, candles, bath bombs & more! I had been a teacher long before learning how to make natural products though, so when I moved to San Francisco in 2013, I decided to mesh my 2 specialty areas and open Blue Dot Organics. I have taught in various capacities ever since I graduated with a Bachelor's in Education in 2006, but I prefer the small-group setting for a more personal experience and so you can get the most out of the class! I hope to meet you soon!
