This hands-on class is for those who want to learn how to make & customize their own lotion and stop buying store-bought, manufactured lotions that are laden with chemicals, toxins and alcohol. Natural lotion is made with natural oils, butters & other skin-nourishing ingredients like aloe vera; there are no chemicals and nothing that will dry out your skin, so you only need to use a small amount to fully moisturize your skin. You will notice that your skin will become softer & more moisturized over time by switching to natural lotion. We'll cover the following: - The differences between manufactured lotions & natural, homemade ones, including why certain chemicals are added to manufactured lotions & how they are harmful - How to use an online, ingredient checker at ewg.org; this website allows you to check the potential toxicity of ingredients (natural & synthetic) found in personal-care products - The different types of natural lotions and their pros & cons, including how to work with preservatives and make a sunscreen or bug-repellent lotion - The materials needed & where to get them, as well as the lotion recipe and how to adjust it based on your personal preferences - Making & customizing your lotion (what I call water-based lotion) with the ingredients that work best for your skin type (a variety of ingredients are provided like jojoba oil for sensitive skin, rose water for inflamed skin, shea butter for dry/damaged skin, coconut oil for eczema, lavender essential oil for acne-prone skin, etc.) In this class, an informational, ingredient chart is provided to help you choose the right ingredients for your skin-care needs. You'll go home with 8 fl oz of lotion, the ingredient chart and a thorough, detailed instructional handout, including all of the information that we'll cover & a list of online suppliers. Everything is provided in the class, as well as some snacks & tea. This class is available for up to 2 people and lasts 1 hour & 45 minutes. Important Notes: - With the Holidays coming up, classes are available: - Now through November 14th - December 12-20th - Then again starting on January 10th Possible Add-ons: - Lip balm (+$20) - Bath bombs (+$25) - Body/face scrub (+$25) - Body/face wash (+$30) Each product adds about 30-60 minutes and can be customized with the ingredients of your choice, based on your fragrance preference &/or skin-care needs. Other Available Classes: - Bar & liquid soap making (Cold & hot process and liquid soap) - Beeswax candle making Discounts are available for students that would like to make 3 or more products in 1 class. Contact Lindsay for more information. What makes Lindsay's DIY (Do-It-Yourself) classes unique? Much more goes into making natural, personal-care products than you might think. It's a science! So it is very important that you understand why you are doing something, not just how to do something. Each class begins with discussing the science behind making the product, why certain ingredients are needed & formulating recipes, which is often the hardest part. Then it's time to get hands-on, making the product with me as your guide. My goals are for you to have fun learning something new & making your product, and that you leave the class with a solid, knowledge foundation that you can build upon.

Hi, my name is Lindsay. I am the former owner of Blue Dot Organics based out of San Francisco. I taught a variety of large-group classes in the making of soap, candles, lotion, lip balm and various other body & household, natural products. I closed this business in the fall of 2014 and traveled abroad with my husband. We returned to Pacifica, California in the fall of 2015 and I began teaching again, but on a smaller scale until May of 2016. My husband was offered a job in Long Beach; so since July of 2016, I have been offering private classes, as well as small-group classes on my online calendar, for 1-4 people per class in downtown Long Beach. You can enjoy an informative, fun class tailored to you in a relaxed atmosphere. My Soap Making & Teaching Background: I have been making & learning about natural, personal-care products since 2012, when I took my first soap-making class with my sister-in-law in Quincy, Massachusetts. I like to joke that it spiraled out of control as we discovered that nearly everything in your home can be made at home using natural ingredients. So we took a few more classes, learning how to make lotion, candles & more! When my husband & I moved to SF, I wanted to start something new, and since I had been a teacher long before learning how to make natural products, I decided to mesh my 2 specialty areas and open Blue Dot Organics. I have taught in various capacities ever since I graduated with a Bachelor's in Education in 2006, but I prefer the small-group setting for a more personal experience and so you can get the most out of the class! I hope to meet you soon!
