Or maybe you want to turn your life story into an Emmy award-winning HBO series. If so, veteran screenwriter and TV writer Chris Reed (12 scripts sold) can help. He’s written for all the big boys, Disney, Fox, Sony, and Nickelodeon and even created the a screenplay “Jaguar” that would eventually become “The Lion King” while working on a three-picture deal at Disney Feature Animation. In this five-week Los Angeles Intro Screenwriting Workshop in Los Angeles, you’ll get Chris’s help on your great movie or TV idea and how to turn it into a terrific script. Chris will teach you about story structure, outlining, the intersection of character and conflict, the difference between plot and story, formatting, and scene writing. He’ll also share his secrets for breaking into the business and staying there and how to avoid the rookie mistakes that could end your career. By the end of the class, you’ll understand the fundamentals of screenwriting craft, honed your project’s premise, characters, and even written a beat sheet and some great scenes. Note: We recommend that you take this class before any of our TV Writing or Screenwriting classes if you are new to screenwriting. Instructor: Chris Reed Christopher Reed has sold 5 original screenplays and written 7 other screenplays under contract to various studios including Sony Pictures and Nickelodeon with his writing partner, Cynthia Carle. Chris’s screenwriting career began at Disney Feature Animation where he wrote the feature screenplay, JAGUAR, a concept that would later become THE LION KING. He wrote the original screenplay for the Turner Animation feature CATS DON’T DANCE. Chris has written many screenplays, including the Touchstone feature film, THE SIXTH MAN, as well as the Disney Channel original movie YOU WISH, which was nominated for a Humanitas Award with his writing partner Carle. He has produced a number of short films, including the hugely popular PINK FIVE Star Wars fan film series as well as DOUBLE SHOT, which he also wrote, and THE SPECIALS, which he co-produced and directed. He is the author of two published novels, THE BIG SCRATCH and THE CURSE OF THE WHITE CAT (Ballentine Books /Bastei Lubbe). Chris began his creative career in the theater world where he was founder and Artistic Director of the Siskiyou Performing Arts, writing, producing and directing many plays over 4 seasons. He was also Managing Director of the Magic Theater of San Francisco, producing original works by Sam Shepard, Joe Chapin and other major playwrights. Four of his own plays have been produced in New York, Detroit, California and Oregon. He has produced and directed many independent projects, plays, music, dance events, and internet content. When Marilyn Friedman first arrived in LA in 2004, she tried in vain to find a great writing class. She searched high and low, from Silverlake to Simi Valley. She braved cramped surroundings, stinky salads, lackluster writing prompts, and heavily medicated instructors. However, she realized that instead of looking for local writing classes, why not create her own for people to join her in. That's when she found her passion for teaching and writing. Almost ten years, hundreds of classes and three locations later she has built a community of amazing, supportive, and talented writers.
