As founder and an instructor of Eat Sleep Surf, I surf, snowboard, skateboard, wakeboard, rock climb, and climb mountains. I grew up in Chicago and, at a young age, my passions pushed me westward. Months after moving to California, I became a surf instructor working for three different surf schools. I became popular because my teaching approach was light-hearted, passionate, and effective. I have since taught surfing in California, Florida, Hawaii, England, and Costa Rica. I was introduced to the outdoor industry working at Adventure 16, a specialty outdoor retailer that has outfitted some of California's top outdoor athletes since the 70's. Through Adventure 16, I have participated in the 8000 Meter Challenge, where I climbed three of Southern California's highest mountains in a single day, and joined a group of 12 select climbers for the Winter 8000 Meter Challenge to climb all three mountains in the winter, over 3 days. Bridging the gap between these two loves, the ocean and the mountains, the Eat Sleep Surf trip was born.
