Finally the phone is ringing. It’s some fast-talking agent from ICM who wants to rep you because of that killer half-hour comedy pilot or spec script you wrote. How did you get there? You took a rewrite class with TV writer Devanshi Patel (Blackish), that’s how. In this five-week Los Angeles TV Comedy Revision Workshop, Devanshi will help you whip your script into shape. Through analyzing a professional script sample you’ll see how a first draft is honed into a final shooting draft. You’ll learn how to punch-up jokes, tighten scenes, track story arcs and polish characters and dialogue. You’ll even hear a full table read of your script so you can see how it’s all playing on its feet. By the end of the class, you’ll have everything you need to get that puppy pitch ready. Emmy not included. Prerequisites: You must have a draft of an original 1/2 hour TV Comedy pilot or a spec of an existing 1/2 hour TV Comedy show. Instructor: Devanshi Patel Devanshi Patel was a 2014 ABC Fellow. She has written on ABC’s Black-ish and TBS’s Ground Floor. Devanshi cut her comedy chops performing stand up all over clubs in New York City and touring on the east coast. She starting writing scripts and when the first pilot she wrote got her into the FOX Writer’s Fellowship, she moved to LA and took classes at UCLA and got improv training at the Upright Citizens Brigade. She has a BS in Finance and International Business from NYU and worked in Finance – experience she later took and wrote about in a pilot that helped her get into the ABC Writers Program. About
Message
When Marilyn Friedman first arrived in LA in 2004, she tried in vain to find a great writing class. She searched high and low, from Silverlake to Simi Valley. She braved cramped surroundings, stinky salads, lackluster writing prompts, and heavily medicated instructors. However, she realized that instead of looking for local writing classes, why not create her own for people to join her in. That's when she found her passion for teaching and writing. Almost ten years, hundreds of classes and three locations later she has built a community of amazing, supportive, and talented writers.
