Do you have a great idea for HBO’s next hit series? Let successful TV writer Sam Ernst (Hand of God, Haven) help you transform your brilliant premise into a page-turning script! In this five week Los Angeles TV drama pilot class, you’ll sample the different genres of TV dramas, plan a season arc that keeps the audience hooked, and break your pilot story just like they do in the writer’s room. Sam will show you how to dramatize your life’s details, create realistic dialogue, and sprinkle in the right amount of plot for a 30 min. or 1 hour show. Through in-class workshopping and pitching, you’ll clarify your tone, voice and world. By the end of this class, you’ll have completed a solid outline of an irresistible TV Drama pilot. You’ll be on your way to an executive producer credit faster than you can say “Lena Dunham.” Instructor: Sam Ernst Sam Ernst is the Co-executive producer for HAND OF GOD and the co-creator/executive producer of SyFy Network’s HAVEN, based on a book by Stephen King. Haven is currently in production on Seasons 5 and 6. Sam has been on staff for THE DEAD ZONE, which aired for 5 seasons on the USA network. He’s currently consulting producer on NBC’s CRISIS, starring Gillian Anderson and Dermot Mulroney. He’s worked for 20th Century/Fox, Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Entertainment One. He has written SHREK video games for Activision, sold four pilots to ABC, and is currently at work on two pilots, one for Amazon. Dates: September 14, 21, 28, Oct. 5, 19 (5 Wed. Nights) 7:30-10:30 p.m.

About
Message
When Marilyn Friedman first arrived in LA in 2004, she tried in vain to find a great writing class. She searched high and low, from Silverlake to Simi Valley. She braved cramped surroundings, stinky salads, lackluster writing prompts, and heavily medicated instructors. However, she realized that instead of looking for local writing classes, why not create her own for people to join her in. That's when she found her passion for teaching and writing. Almost ten years, hundreds of classes and three locations later she has built a community of amazing, supportive, and talented writers.
