Metalsmithing is a great foundation for jewelry artists of all skill levels. During this experience, you'll learn to design by exploring positive and negative space, create layered effects by cutting designs in metal with a jeweler’s saw, add dimension through texturing and personalize your design with metal stamps. As the final touch, you’ll add a professional finish to your wearable artwork! The class is structured into 3 distinct areas of focus: First, your Instructor will present various techniques through discussion and demonstrations. Students will try each technique for hands-on learning. From there, we’ll move into design-time, where each artist may choose from supplied templates, or work from their own ideas. During this process, the instructor provides constructive feedback and suggestions so students may realize their vision. Then, artists will dive into making, with support from the Instructor. Expect to spend at least 4 hours in the studio. (And expect to have fun, get lots of hands-on experience and leave with a finished piece for Insta-bragging rights!) SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: - Closed-toed, low-heeled or no-heeled shoes - Comfortable “play-clothes”. No flowing sleeves or too much bulk - Long hair must be worn in a bun or ponytail - Protective eyewear will be provided and must be worn LOCATION: The Studio address will be provided to Students who enroll in the class MATERIALS FEE: A small fee for materials will be collected on-site via PayPal, cash or CC. No more than $13 ADDITIONAL CLASSES: Enjoy hands-on jewelry experiences? Check-out our other Verlocal classes: Jewelry Soldering for Beginners and Beginning Wax Carving for Lost Wax Casting. FANCY NAILS ALERT: Unfortunately, metalsmithing is hard on your manicure. Save your nail-prettifying session for AFTER class. You’ll thank us for the tip!
