A introductory natural dye class focusing on those plants that are either native to Southern California, can be foraged, found or grown easily in our climate.
The course will focus on low water, low energy preparations including how to start a solar dye vat and preserve your dye by tincturing for longer term use.
-Students will learn about which bio-regional plants give color, how to process into dye and prep fibers for “light-fastness”. Focus will be on giving students the skills to work on their own, identify tried and true plant dyes, and how to use minimal water.
*Students will leave with a watercolor dye chart, yarn swatch library and a Shibori dyed hemp/cotton handkerchief.

Hey there, I am an artist whose medium, natural dyes, is the primary focus of my work. I use natural dyes as a medium for dyeing and printing textiles, installation, my own apparel line KAM Textiles. Most importantly I work with plant dyes and local fibers as a conceptual vehicle to demonstrate how we are all connected to the natural world.
I spent the last year growing a baby and learning how to be a mother. The previous year I spent draping patterns and developing a color story for my new dress collection which I'm launching Spring 2016. Most days I spend in nature wildcrafting and harvesting color.
I currently work with LA Fibershed, The Ecology Center and my own line KAM Textiles, connecting the nodes through projects and collaborative work.
