Express Your Inner Self Through Movement and Dancing!
Taking influences from European and African roots, the movement is a synthesis of Contemporary dance, Hip hop culture and African rhythms. Each class will be explored in depth to enhance and develop the dancers fluidity, physical awareness and a true passion to perform. The work will allow you to improve creative and technical skills with live rhythmic music; performing exuberant floorwork through to vigorous dance movements, ensuring that the dancers leave a signature spatial mark. Poundo’s class encourages dancers to approach the movement with technique, fluidity, risk, weight, respiration and athleticism. While pushing the boundaries of the body, we’ll be using the technique paths to explore new ways to move through emotional and organic intentions.
This is Poundo Gomis speaking. Here. Now. And forward. I was born to show off. I came out of my mother’s belly, feet first in a pair of tiny red heels. A disco ball came down from above as I emerged into the world, prompting the bass of a funky jam. My mother looked upon my face for the first time and there I was, lashes out, smiling without a tear from my big bright eyes. I would not stand to have my makeup ruined, even on my very first day out of the womb. A Parisian quickly transitioning to life as a New Yorker. She is a professional dancer and dance teacher. She moved to New York because she was part of the Broadway show 'Fela'. Recently, she worked with Cirque du Soleil and The Roots.
