Only 1 spot remaining. Sign up today! If you're ready to introduce a line of haircare products to your product line, then this class is for you! This full-day class is intended for individuals wanting to learn how to make their own haircare products, for beginner through advanced cosmetic formulators, or for natural cosmetic companies. It is a class taught by cosmetic formulator Marla Bosworth and designed for salon owners, spa owners, bath and body company entrepreneurs and anyone who wants to make incredibly good-for-you hair products. Save yourself money and time by skipping formulator fees in addition to costly mistakes trying to make these products on your own. Marla brings this class to you with effective and natural products that have been tested and raved by salon professionals, students and her own customers. You may sell these formulas in your line, reformulate and tweak it, or produce the products simply for personal use or for gift-giving. In this full-day class we will discuss theory and formulate four haircare products for various hair types. We'll discuss the difference between Asian, African American and Caucasian hair and the challenges each presents. Next, we’ll discuss the theory of each product you are going to learn how to make. Then we’ll formulate four hair products: shampoo, conditioner, hair serum and relaxer/moisturizing treatment. Third, we’ll take a look at the natural haircare market: the size, competitors, price comparisons and much more that is essential for anyone interested in developing a line. Students will learn to make the following products: Herbal Shampoo ~ This natural herbal shampoo is very gentle and can even be used as a baby shampoo. It gently cleans the hair without stripping it. Note: This is a shampoo made with naturally-derived surfactants and emulsifiers as well as plant oils and butters, not one made by combining oils and lye. Herbal Conditioner ~ The natural herbal condition leaves hair soft and manageable. In addition to preventing dryness, it doubles as a detangler. No more frizzies with this wonderful product! The process of making conditioners is similar to that of making lotions or creams, so if you already make those, you'll probably be good at making conditioners too. Herbal Nourishing Hair Serum ~ This natural herbal hair oil leaves locks soft, shiny and moisturized. It is a wonderful product to tame flyaways and keep hair in place. This product does not contain polymers or silicones like (dimethicone or cyclomethicone), but we will address why people use these and where to purchase if you are interested in using them. Herbal Hair Relaxer ~ The natural hair relaxer adds wonderful nourishment to all hair types. It will relax course hair. For those who don't need a relaxer, this product also doubles as a deep scalp moisturizing treatment. Other Products ~ Students will receive formulations for dry shampoo, hair gel and bar shampoo, although they will not be made in class. All products are free from synthetic fragrances, parabens and are sulfate free - they do not contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) or SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate). In addition, this class will cover: - Properties of plant oils and butters and how they clean and moisturize the hair. - Why we need surfactants and which ones are the most natural. - Amphoteric, anionic, cationic and nonionic ingredients and how they relate to haircare. - How to create and use herbal infusions, tinctures and decoctions. - Which herbs, vitamins, extracts and balancers are available to use when formulating. - How to choose and incorporate plant-based essential oils into your haircare products. - How to formulate for oily, normal, thin, dry, weak, coarse and color-treated hair types. - An overview of the natural haircare market: size, potential, competitors and more. - What the difference is between synthetic, natural & naturally-derived ingredients. - Effective natural preservatives. - Packaging options. - Labeling requirements. - How to price your products. - Recommended suppliers. You'll leave with full-size samples of all the products made in class. Students will receive a class binder full of handouts that includes instructions, formulations and a valuable list of suppliers.
