Origin & LIMINALITY: Experimental Writing with Gina Goldblatt - 6 WEEK WORKSHOPS
Want to crack open your writing? Create in a different way? Write subversively? In this class, we will explore fiction as an experiential reproduction of truth; this can be character truth, feeling truth, or a myriad number of other types of truth that must be told through writing. We will explore notions of origin, liminality and legacy and how they can pose as an alternative to the 5-point traditional story arc. Writers may include Toni Morrison, Sandra Cisneros, Antonio Lobo Antunes, Daphne Gottlieb, Arundhati Roy and others. This workshop will take place at LIMINAL: A Feminist & Womanist Writing Space in Oakland, CA. It is a 6 week workshop happening every Monday starting from September 19th, from 7PM -9 PM. We will have a final reading on October 28th for all Fall Workshop participants.
I see writing as a vehicle for voice. It is a tool for advocacy, political, personal, communal, creative, at times grave and at times playful. I am interested in community through the use of writing, though the expressions it allows for, the connections, the truth- seeking and finding and in being in roles of support and creation in these processes. It matters to me that women and marginalized groups in society have mediums that give them voice, and that I am an active participant in listening, attending, and being an ally as much as it is important to me to create in my own vision through the use of my voice, which I hope will resonate with the experience of truth for others.
