Writing Your Way to Zorgos with Kristen Caven - 6 WEEK WORKSHOPS
ZORGOS, the secret word introduced in The Bullying Antidote by Dr. Louise Hart and Kristen Caven, symbolizes the "superpower" that makes us immune to negative power dynamics, from the esperanto for "I will take care." This discussion and writing workshop is part of The Zorgos Project, a city-wide read of The Bullying Antidote, and all participants will receive a free copy to read and discuss over the course of the workshop. At each meeting, participants will chose a writing prompt to explore a topic around their own experience from the assigned chapters to share wish an intimate group guided by the author. This workshop will take place at LIMINAL: A Feminist & Womanist Writing Space in Oakland, CA. It is a 6 week workshop happening every Tuesday starting from September 20th, from 7PM -9 PM. We will have a final reading on October 28th for all Fall Workshop participants.
I see writing as a vehicle for voice. It is a tool for advocacy, political, personal, communal, creative, at times grave and at times playful. I am interested in community through the use of writing, though the expressions it allows for, the connections, the truth- seeking and finding and in being in roles of support and creation in these processes. It matters to me that women and marginalized groups in society have mediums that give them voice, and that I am an active participant in listening, attending, and being an ally as much as it is important to me to create in my own vision through the use of my voice, which I hope will resonate with the experience of truth for others.
