Time to get rad on trad! Prerequisites Outdoor Lead Climbing or comparable abilities Objectives After spending considerable time climbing indoors in Seattle and taking Kaf’s outdoor intro courses, it’s time to participate in the intermediate class, Trad Climbing Fundamentals. It’s a must for all climbers who want to progress into a confident, competent climber of all styles of outdoor rock climbing. During this important rock climbing course, you will begin honing your skill-set as a traditional gear climber. We will spend 2 days helping you to refine your techniques and begin developing the necessary knowledge to accurately assess systems and scenarios that you will encounter for the rest of your climbing career. The curriculum includes: Comprehensive climbing knots Artificial Gear placement Rope management How to catch a lead fall Cleaning a route Advanced movement & technique Continued natural anchor construction Artificial anchor construction Advanced rappelling techniques Communication Lead belaying (ATC & GRIGRI) Mock leading/lead climbing How and when to fall Picking appropriate routes Down-climbing Proper clipping techniques Mental tips for lead climbing Assessing fixed protection Building top rope anchors Locations Will vary depending on weather.
