Intro to Modern Calligraphy, Part 2: Calligraphy Connect the Dots
You’ve learned the calligraphy alphabet, now what? Let’s get down to brass tacks and look at the technique for connecting letters to string them together into words and phrases. This class will delve deep into how to weave letters into words and phrases, explore the possibilities with "ligature" letter connections, and integrating your personal style into your lettering. We'll delve into basic typography design / layout, so think of a 3 - 5 word phrase that resonates with you and we will sketch out some design possibilities. Your teacher Sarah will give you feedback and critiques to support you in honing your design. Hi, I'm Sarah! I am a calligrapher in Seattle who is passionate about cultivating community. I teach calligraphy and hand lettering and have had over 250 students come through my curriculum over the last few years. In my classes, you can expect to learn tried and tested techniques and practical application in a supportive, engaging and interactive environment. My teaching style is warm and demonstrative and I frequently receives rave reviews from my students. In addition to regular calligraphy and lettering classes, you can plug into our monthly Seattle Calligraphy Meetup. I took my first calligraphy class in the 6th grade and fell in love with the art form. In college I studied Visual Design with a Certified Image Master where I honed my design instincts and calligraphy gives me an opportunity to blend my design and education background. A few years ago I rediscovered modern calligraphy and have studied with renown calligrapher and letterer Molly Jacques.
