Discover Pottery-Making Explore the muddy world of the pottery wheel with a personalized lesson! In this 2 hour class, I will introduce you to the basic elements of throwing on the pottery wheel including wedging, centering, opening, raising, shaping, and finishing. Anything you make, I will trim, fire, and glaze for you so that you can show off your own handmade pottery! All tools and materials are provided, you just need to wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. This class is in NorthWest Seattle, between 15-40 minutes from the city center depending on traffic. PLEASE NOTE: Requests to book must be submitted at least a week out in advance!

I first started working in ceramics as a teenager 20 years ago and I've loved pottery every since! I received my bachelor's of arts degree in ceramics and sculpture from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana, and my masters of fine arts degree in organizational leadership from Seattle University in Seattle, Washington. I have a varied background in art and nonprofit work - working in two production ceramic studios, as an art center teacher, starting a small clothing design company, collaborating on a small arts fundraising organization, and working as a manager and director at several Seattle-area nonprofits for over fifteen years. I started my business, Saltstone Ceramics in May of 2015, making pottery, offering group classes on an 8-week rotating basis, private instruction and workshops, studio rental and firing services for bisque, low, and high-fire ceramics in electric and gas kilns. In addition to ceramics, I love gardening, hiking, cooking, weightlifting, and learning new home-steading skills - I think they all fit together. Natasha Alphonse, who teaches the Tuesday night Surface Decoration class is First Nations Canadian, coming from Northern Saskatchewan and runs her own ceramic studio in Seattle, Washington.
