Kizomba Dance Class
Kizomba originated in Angola from a mix of traditional Angolan semba and zouk music from the French Caribbean Islands. It is both a dance form and a music style that is known by its close partner connection and its soft movements. Its popularity has expanded greatly in countries outside of Angola such as Portugal, the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, the US, and as well as in Eastern European countries such as Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Serbia. This class will focus on the Basics of Kizomba. In order to fully grasp the dance, it is important to understand how “just the basics” can influence the overall feel of the dance and how slight changes to simple steps can make the dance feel entirely different. Both leads and follows will work on the grounded step of Kizomba that differentiate it from salsa and bachata.
Victor and Julia have been dancing and performing together since 2005. They started teaching shortly after and have always dreamt of having a dance studio of their own. In May 2011 their dream came true and they opened Salsa N' Seattle Dance Studio. The studio has since grown to include other class offerings such as Bachata, Zumba, Hip hop, Bollywood, and more! Today Victor and Julia continue to teach most of the Salsa classes at the studio as well as direct Salsa & Bachata performance teams of all levels. They are so grateful for each and every one of their students and are inspired by them daily to become better dancers, instructors, and people.
