Sewing with a SERGER
This class works best as a private or booked with a friend! Mornings work for me as I have to open the shop at noon, so feel free to request a date. Typically private lessons start at 10am, while two person sessions start at 9:30am. Private Lesson: Intro to Overlock Class Level: Beginner Age Requirements: 18 and older Average Class Size: 1 person! Learn the in and outs of the daunting serger machine, threading, maintenance, and multiple stitches this tricky machine can accomplish. I teach some of the many stitches and projects you can accomplish with the overlock machine. We will sew sample pieces mostly, but if you have a project you would like to bring in, you are more than welcome to! Teacher: Karin Persan "by Better Than Jam"
Karin has been silkscreening since 1999, sewing since middle school. She began teaching in Chicago 2002 after she graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Moving back to New York she settled in Bushwick, Brooklyn 2007 where she continued to work on her line "Better Than Jam," of her own hand printed textiles and self sewn clothing and accessories. In 2010 she made the plunge and opened her first boutique location at 1087 Flushing Ave. 2015, she and the shop made a huge move to 20 Grattan St, to an old warehouse space. In this space the simple boutique has been transformer into a store, communal studio space, and learning center. In the retail space one can purchase locally handmade gifts and fashions, sewing craft and art supplies, take classes and workshops of the craft and small business variety, as well as rent studio space and time hourly, daily, or monthly.
