About Your Host

I'm a writer/musician/artist/crafter/geek with wide interests and a fascination with learning. I love to share what I've learned, and spent 15 years as a college instructor, teaching web coding. I believe that if you want to learn something, you can, and that creativity is in all of us. I'm the author of Middle English Surnames in West Yorkshire, which may be found on Amazon and at other book retailers. In 2016, I plan to work on recording an album of original music. Stay tuned!

What we’ll do

“Fairy” gardens: miniature gardens that display a tiny world of their own, are all the rage right now. It’s easy to make a small garden or terrarium, buy some accessories at a craft or garden store, and call it done. But what if you want to make something really special, something that no one else has? In this workshop, I’ll help you create your own unique miniature garden. We’ll discuss how to create your fairy garden, how to define what you want out of it, tips and techniques, what your design philosophy is, and more. Then, I’ll help you to build some accessories of your own for you to take home with you and use in your own garden, to make it look like yours and no one else’s. You’ll also leave with a few supplies to take home. The items we make will vary from workshop to workshop, but you can expect that we may work with materials including wood, wire, paint, glue, and polymer clay, so you should be prepared to dress accordingly. The location of the workshop is a house where there are cats. We vacuum right before the class, and if needed, the cats will be kept out of the class area.
