About Your Host

I grew up in Calcutta, India and learned to cook from my mother and aunt. In 1986, I moved to the U.S. with my husband Partha to work as a biologist. In 2006, I retired from the nine-to-five routine so that I could work full-time on my dream – bringing the flavors and the benefits of Indian cooking to all New Yorkers. My family and friends have been telling me for years that my cooking is so good that I should let others try it too. Two years ago I decided they were right, and Mukti’s Kitchen was born. Mukti’s Kitchen offers cooking classes, lecture-demonstrations and catering services. I focus on Indian food, Indian cooking and healthy eating. I use authentic, modern Indian techniques, with adjustments for American kitchens and any dietary restrictions. Come to Mukti’s Kitchen to learn how to cook an entire meal or just one special dish. Let me teach you the basics of healthy Indian-style cooking, from the names and special characteristics of Indian spices, to the secrets that will give you the best flavor. And, if you’d love to serve a special Indian meal to your family or friends but don’t feel ready to cook it yourself, I’ll cater it for you!

What we'll do

Because of the COVID situation you need to show me the card that you are completely vaccinated (two doses). I want to take extra precaution for myself and my family. I will take your temperature also. Please wear your masks all the time, and only take off at the time of eating. What you'll learn in this Indian cooking class: I will teach you everything you need to know about spices (masalas), which is the basis of Indian cooking that will come handy when we begin to cook. Spices bring out the flavor in each dish; therefore, I always like my students to learn and become spice experts. I will teach you the nuances and secrets, where to get the masalas, and how to keep the aroma intact. After the class I will send you the electronic version of the recipes to your email, so that It will be with you forever. This class is not going to be hands-on but mostly me demonstrating, and you watching. After we will make all the dishes, we will have a sit-down dinner. You will get friendship, fun and exquisite food a complete dinner. Class Level: All levels Age Requirements: 18 and older Average Class Size: 6 (six-foot social distancing maintained) Learn to make vegan, gluten-free, dishes with Mukti. We will be making 5-6 dishes together. All done in our comfortable, relaxed, and friendly setting at Mukti’s Brooklyn-based kitchen. Or, we can be invited to your kitchen too, occasionally. We cook from scratch using the best, healthy ingredients, spices and produce. We mingle, share our cooking experiences, eat together at the end of the class, and have lots of fun. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to create delicious dishes, without sacrificing the top-quality vegan health issues. Often, we sacrifice either the health issues, or the savory taste of the foods. I will show you how not to compromise either. Come join us! Let us know your special needs, if any.
