What we'll do

Students should have a basic vocabulary like flaps and shuffles as well as a basic understanding of rhythm patterns like swing or Latin (1 – 2 years of training). Taught by Lane Alexander, the teaching method utilizes deep listening and relaxation as well as “call and respond games” to teach more complex rhythms, steps and patterns. Students will continue to listen first, speak second; new vocabulary and rhythmic patterns; as well as more complex combinations of steps and rhythms. The goal will be to relax more deeply, both physically and mentally to find “the groove” and to facilitate the ability to recognize and emulate rhythmic and physical patterns – often referred to as “steps.” The class is cumulative over the term of each session and online learning videos accompany the classes. We play to learn – we learn to play. Note: This class is designated for ages 13 and up, and the estimated duration is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
