Workshop Overview During this 3-4 hour metal fabrication workshop, students will choose to create a small scale bench or table (adult or child size), a serving tray, or window planter box. Each of these designs use the same fundamental metal structures and will allow each student to learn the in’s and out’s of basic metal industry techniques. Evan will guide you through welding, metal forming, and machine operation to construct the frame of your project. After the main frame of the project is created, wood will be used to complete the surfaces of each piece. What you will learn Introduction to Metal Fabrication provides a hands-on introduction to metalworking and fabrication. Along with learning the basics of metalworking, the class will cover manufacturing and assembly of metal components as done in a professional metal shop. Each design also incorporates the use of woodworking techniques to help complete the exterior of the project. To achieve the perfect mix of high-quality metalworking with a clean wood finish, we will cover wood finishing techniques, like grinding, smoothing, blending, and patination. Evan will show you the tricks of the trade while guiding your design of a stand-alone piece of furniture. About Evan Evan is an 8th generation Texan who spent a good chunk of his formative years in his family’s hunting/fishing supply shop, which included live rattlesnake pit. His raising affirmed the belief that high-quality supplies are necessary for high-quality products. Evan recently made the move from Austin to NYC and started his own business in the city. His main fabrication shop is still in Austin and is still waiting on the addition of its own rattlesnake pit.
