Start Your DIY Embroidery Adventure
Have you ever wanted to create fiber art or to customize your clothing and linens? In Beginning Embroidery, you will learn classic and experimental hand sewing techniques to create drawings in thread.
We will learn how to successfully sew several different embroidery stitches that will create unique surfaces, lines, and texture. All materials will be provided and everyone will take home their project, some extra thread and needles, an embroidery hoop, and a stitch instruction packet for later reference.
Class will begin with introductions and a check in about everyone's skill level. While this is a beginner class and we will start with basic stitches, more advanced stitchers will have the opportunity to learn complicated stitches. We will learn a 7 embroidery stitches including: running stitch, backstitch, whipped back stitch, couching, blanket stitch, satin stitch, and french knot. Students will be taught how to finish their work, which includes mounting and framing.
This 2.5 hour workshop includes all materials, snacks, beverages, and a 20% discount off of everything in our shop!
About the instructor:
Jennie Lennick is a San Francisco based artist, entrepreneur, and teacher. As a child in the Midwest, Jennie became enamored with traditional domestic craft, learning to sew and embroider. Her first job as a teenager was in a bead shop in Minneapolis where she taught adults and children macramé and other beading techniques. In 2010, She moved to the Bay Area to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, where she studied painting. Inspired by the natural beauty of Northern California, Jennie launched Jenny Lemons (jennylemons.com), a collection of modern block printed and hand painted women’s clothing and textiles. Jennie's work has been featured in publications like the San Francisco Chronicle, Brit + Co, and San Francisco Magazine. Her retail store in the Mission District of San Francisco is a community space where she facilitates DIY workshops, produces her products, and showcases the talents of other local artists.

We are passionate about teaching others to slow down and create things by hand. We love helping our students make items to beautify their homes and give as gifts while learning traditional craft techniques. All of our teachers are formally trained artists, and bring this perspective into their teaching- we encourage students to experiment, express themselves, and have fun!
