This exciting workshop combines three skills printmaking, sewing, and leatherworking!
To begin, we will learn how to print with a roller stamp. A roller stamp is a textured cylinder which is covered in ink and rolled over fabric, creating an all-over pattern. It is one of the easiest ways to print large areas of fabric! You will create your own rotary stamp and print half a yard of canvas.
Once we print our fabric, we will sew our tote bag using a sewing machine. We will go over all basics of using a sewing machine from how to thread a needle to troubleshooting issues.
To finish, we will use simple leatherworking skills to set rivets and attach leather handles to our bag.
All materials are provided including sewing machines, canvas, and roller printing supplies. Students will leave with their own custom rotary stamp and their handmade tote bag!
About the instructor:
Jennie Lennick is a San Francisco based artist, entrepreneur, and teacher. As a child in the Midwest, Jennie became enamored with traditional domestic craft, learning to sew and embroider. Her first job as a teenager was in a bead shop in Minneapolis where she taught adults and children macramé and other beading techniques. In 2010, She moved to the Bay Area to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, where she studied painting. Inspired by the natural beauty of Northern California, Jennie launched Jenny Lemons (jennylemons.com), a collection of modern block printed and hand-painted women’s clothing and textiles. Jennie's work has been featured in publications like the San Francisco Chronicle, Brit + Co, and San Francisco Magazine. Her retail store in the Mission District of San Francisco is a community space where she facilitates DIY workshops, produces her products, and showcases the talents of other local artists.

We are passionate about teaching others to slow down and create things by hand. We love helping our students make items to beautify their homes and give as gifts while learning traditional craft techniques. All of our teachers are formally trained artists, and bring this perspective into their teaching- we encourage students to experiment, express themselves, and have fun!
