Makes about 30 cups of tea. Golden Milk is an organic ginger-turmeric instant chai tea mix. Inspired by the traditional Indonesian elixir, jamu, and the ancient Ayruvedic beverage golden milk, Jessica crafted Instant Golden Milk. This mix is a great alternative to making Golden Milk from raw ingredients because powdered ginger and turmeric actually have a higher concentration of vitamins and nutrients than their fresh counter parts. It is also much faster to make golden milk by adding a spoonful of this mix to hot water than it is to prepare traditional Golden Milk which involves peeling, grating, blending, and boiling fresh turmeric and then adding sweeter and milk.
YOGA: Jessica began practicing yoga while attending Colorado College. Jessica found yoga to be very helpful in rehabilitating her knee after the second time she tore her ACL snowboarding. Through her continued practice of yoga, meditation and introduction to Buddhism she realized that the benefits of yoga not only affected her physical body but also changed her thoughts and her relationship to her mind. For many years Jessica suffered from severe digestive issues for which doctors could not provide answers. She turned to Alternative Medicine for help and began a spiritual path of healing and self-inquiry. In 2012 she completed her 200hr Vinyasa yoga teacher training in Indonesia. She has been teaching a variety of yoga types for the past 4 years on Block Island, in the Bahamas, and in Newport. JAMU JUICE: Jessica began making Jamu Juice after realizing its health benefits during her travels in Indonesia. She first began selling this yellowish orange beverage at the Alternative Food Co-op in 2013. The following summer she delighted people on Block Island and in Jamestown, RI by vending this turmeric-ginger elixir at their respective Farmers’ Markets. During the fall of 2014 she sold Jamu Juice outside of Wholefoods in Providence. She attended various expos and attracted other local co-ops and cafes to carry her products. During the Winter of 2014, Jessica acquired barcodes and developed nutrition facts panels. She carried out a crowd funding campaign in order to raise the additional funds necessary to scale up production. Jamu Juice is still being packed by hand in the Alternative Food Co-op’s certified kitchen for now
