The unique design and colors on this silk scarf are from actual collected leaves in my area and dye baths to enhance the colors. The scarf is 8" x 54" in size and pure silk. Rose leaves, pecan and additional plants were used in the eco-dyeing. The silk slept in an indigo bath before the final design was completed to create the blue over tones. Every scarf comes with a tag with the story of its making. Totally organic, sustainable, renewable art form! Eco printing is the collecting of Nature's plants and flowers and then through a natural process, imprinting them onto the fabric to create colors, designs and textures. The results are beautiful, unpredictable and that is what makes it such an exciting and unique art form! Look to see not just a species but both the positive and negative shapes of the leaves and flowers. (this is not "sun printing") The colors are the ACTUAL colors from the plants. This art form is environmentally friendly, sustainable and organic art! Each item is one of a kind. Care: Hand wash cold water (I use baby shampoo) Hang to dry or quick tumble in dryer low setting, iron on silk setting if needed Only 1 like this available. This scarf is ready to be shipped.
I am a long time artist with a specialty in fiber arts, especially silk. Working on silk, wool and linen, I use a number of different processes to create my art. For some I design and carve my own reliefs, build the blocks and print my designs using textile inks to imprint the design onto the silk. On others, I hand draw, then paint the designs onto the silk fabric. And with my eco or contact printing, I collect and process Nature's plants to leave her beautiful impressions on silk. Eco dyeing or botanical printing involves the foraging and collecting of Nature's leaves, plants, fruit and flowers to begin a journey of preparation before emerging on the fiber in unique, all natural designs and colors drawn directly from the plant matter. Like the journey of a butterfly, each piece undergoes its own personal dye transformation before emerging 2-5 days later in the beautiful colors of its metamorphosis. Each textile tells its own story. That is what makes it such an exciting and unique art form. Join me at my studio on my mini-farm in the rolling hills of the North Carolina Piedmont. I'm surrounded by chickens, ponies, dogs and my alpaca where I grow many of the plants, roses and trees used in my eco-printing process on my fiber art.
