I am a long time artist with a specialty in fiber arts, especially silk. Working on silk, wool and linen, I use a number of different processes to create my art. For some I design and carve my own reliefs, build the blocks and print my designs using textile inks to imprint the design onto the silk. On others, I hand draw, then paint the designs onto the silk fabric. And with my eco or contact printing, I collect and process Nature's plants to leave her beautiful impressions on silk. Eco dyeing or botanical printing involves the foraging and collecting of Nature's leaves, plants, fruit and flowers to begin a journey of preparation before emerging on the fiber in unique, all natural designs and colors drawn directly from the plant matter. Like the journey of a butterfly, each piece undergoes its own personal dye transformation before emerging 2-5 days later in the beautiful colors of its metamorphosis. Each textile tells its own story. That is what makes it such an exciting and unique art form. Join me at my studio on my mini-farm in the rolling hills of the North Carolina Piedmont. I'm surrounded by chickens, ponies, dogs and my alpaca where I grow many of the plants, roses and trees used in my eco-printing process on my fiber art.
