I call this style the "clutch" or "checkbook" wallet since it is long and slim, and can organize everything you need in the palm of your hand. It is a traditional women's wallet on the inside, but the outside of this handmade leather Black Eyed Nellie Clutch Wallet has a cow skull and flowers in yellow, purple, turquoise, black, white and antique black. The clutch style wallet measures approximately 8" x 4-3/4" and has a little thumb-release tab closure for easy opening. The hardware is silver. On one side there are seven card slots (including one for an ID) with a pocket behind and on the other side there are four additional card slots with an expandable pocket and a zipper pocket behind. This wallet also expands throughout the body, so you can easily stuff it quite full. I start with a piece of tooling leather and cut, brand, paint and dye it before adding a protective topcoat. The piece is completely colorfast. The wallet back and inside are stitched together by hand. The inside of the wallet is made by Moxie & Oliver on Vashon Island, WA and the piece is finished in our studio. The hardware is even American made! I am happy to do custom orders - just ask!
I'm a full-time leathercraft artist, mother, and author of "Leathercrafted." I'm a certified leathercraft master. I started Moxie & Oliver in 2014 out of a desire to create leather accessories that were as durable as they were beautiful. After eleven years making leather goods, and with the original pieces still in use (and looking amazing), I have accomplished that and so much more. Teaching leathercraft classes out of my studio allows me to share my love of the craft, my knowledge of the process and history, and my original techniques for adding pattern and color, with interested students. Classes are open to anyone age 12 and older (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult taking a class at the same time). My unique process allows anyone, artistic background or not, to be able to create a beautiful, functional, leather good in an afternoon, a day or a weekend. Come with an open mind and a rough idea of what you'd like to accomplish - with your inspiration and my guidance, YOU will make something wonderful!
