Yolanda is a mother/wife, entrepreneur and urban farmer. An avid do-it-herselfer, she is at home at her own Oakland homestead where she and her family keep chickens, bees, and learn about permaculture principles on their large urban lot, growing much of their own food. Yolanda is co-founder of Pollinate Farm & Garden, an urban farm store and homesteading emporium located in the heart of Oakland. Pollinate carries edible nursery stock (seeds, starts, fruit trees, and perennial edibles), tools and equipment for seed-to-table organic farming and gardening. Pollinate is also a purveyor of supplies for food preserving, fermentation and cheese making, small scale livestock raising and beekeeping , including baby chicks, ducks, turkeys and bees. What we’ll do

The first in our 2019 “Fruit-Filled Garden” series! Take the mystery out of planting and growing deciduous bare root fruit trees! Learn the basics of a scion exchange and how to make the best of the upcoming winter scion exchange events. Includes a discussion on selecting on the best tree varieties for flavor and production in our Bay Area climate. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS John Valenzuela is a horticulturist, consultant and educator specializing in fruit trees and home gardens. He is past chairperson for the Golden Gate Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers, and the owner of Cornucopia Food Forest Gardens, an educational fruit tree care consultancy. John Heenan is a backyard rare citrus grower who volunteers at the Indian Valley College Organic Farm and Garden fruit tree nursery and orchard in Marin County.
