Linda, Gary and Betsy have been contributing great music to the Bay Area's folk and progressive scene for decades. Their songwriting explores the rich dimensions of such topics as lasting love (or not!) and the changes that the decades have brought. Together they bring a wealth of musical and personal experience, from singing with children, to leading a successful women's a cappella group, to musical activism for peace, justice and the 99%, to explorations of spirituality. They bring timeless music for the seasons of our lives. She writes adaptations of liturgy and poetry, folk songs and protest songs. She believes that different voices blending together in harmony is not only a metaphor for, but an example of, the kind of coexistence the world needs. Betsy Rose is a singer, songwriter and community activist whose insight, warmth, humor, wit and wisdom have added a wealth of songs to the world of folk and progressive music for over thirty years. Betsy was a pioneering voice in the Women’s Cultural Movement of the 70’s and 80’s. Artists such as Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, and Bobby McFerrin have sung her songs. Gary Lapow is best known as the Bay Area's premier children’s entertainer for the past 35 years, but he also has a long history as a songwriter and singer for adults. In the mid- 1970s, he played guitar for the late songwriter and activist Malvina Reynolds. He was a member of the Red Star Singers, San Francisco’s radical activist band.
What if, when Saturday evening rolled around, you knew you could have a great evening of music + dinner created just for you? You would consistently enjoy new-to-you fabulous performers in a setting guaranteed to be warm and intimate. And you’d get to rediscover first-hand the power of music to move us all. I wanted this experience for myself, and that’s what I’ve set out to create for my community. How I got there: I picked up the trombone as a boy and have been jamming for four decades in a variety of bands. My stomping grounds now: the Jazzschool Big Band, the Jazzkleztet and the Albany Jazz Band. I’ve always been struck by the power of music to move people and create connection. It happens time and again at the annual Jazz & Klez Summit I co-produce, and at the dozens of concerts of varied genres I have produced. My desire for more intimate musical experiences led me to produce fifteen house concerts. I’m thrilled by my new venture, Cozy Concerts & Supper Club: stellar monthly 75-seat concerts at the beautiful Niebyl-Proctor Library in Oakland, preceded by an excellent meal prepared by my wife Traci, a talented personal chef. (cookwithcheftraci.com) Plus decadent desserts. I invite you to join me on a fun and exhilarating musical adventure.
