As an independent contractor and consultant, it can be tough for a small business to find extra funds to give back, so when they do, it means even more to me and the community – we know it’s coming right from their pocket.

Miranda, Verlocal Customer

On November 14, Chelsea, a hairstylist and Verlocal host based in San Francisco partnered with us to hold her very own charity fundraising haircut event for the Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center (BAWCC). Chelsea donated her professional haircut services and 100% of the proceeds raised was given to BAWCC.

The spirit of Verlocal’s Gives Back program is to encourage all our users and hosts to engage one another to care about and help their own community.

Two of our users attended the haircut event and together, they raised $160 in 2 hours for charity. It might not be a huge amount but Chelsea has decided to do it on a regular basis. As she puts it, “I am inspired and addicted to doing good through my small ways and within my means!”

The ladies had an amazing time giving back in their small ways. Here’s what Chelsea and Miranda, our user has to say about the story.

Let’s begin from Chelsea’s perspective:

  • How was the experience?

Great!  The energy of the clients was great and it all around just felt really good to be giving back with my time and skills.  I also got to meet and establish relationships with new clients.

  • How did it feel meeting other Verlocal fans giving back?

Encouraging!  Neat to see how many people out there care about giving back as well.  Also spurred conversation about topics we cared about and overall, a positive note amidst all the issues going on in the world today.

  • Why did you decide to do it on a regular basis? What got you addicted?

I decided to do this on a regular basis because I had so much fun doing it and it felt so great!  I think the saying is true- it is more rewarding to give than receive.  Also, rather than having one long day of events, I could spread it out over the year with a few moderate sized events and be able to contribute to a few different charities.

  • What would you tell other hosts thinking about giving back?

Get ready to be encouraged and have fun doing it!  You’ll meet and connect with other Verlocal fans about topics that matter to you- feeling like the event isn’t only about the donation, but also about the connection and bringing more awareness to the needs in these areas.

Miranda was one of the Verlocal User who took up the haircut. Here is what she has to say about her experience:

  • What made you decide to sign up?

I thought it would be great to try someone new as well as be a part of an
event that was donating proceeds to charity.

  • What would you say to hosts like Chelsea who are giving back in their small ways?

THANK YOU! As an independent contractor and consultant, it can be tough for a small business to find extra funds to give back, so when they do, it means even more to me and the community – we know it’s coming right from their pocket.

  • Can you give a word of encouragement to our hosts who have signed up for our Give Back initiative?

Generosity, no matter the amount, is heartwarming
and wonderful. Please continue to give back, as our communities need it more than ever.

Last but not least, can you describe your experience and provide some words of inspiration to all our users so they can start giving back too?

Chelsea was awesome, as is my haircut. She was friendly and listened to my requests for my hair. I had an amazing time chatting with her and am looking forward to my next appointment. It was a good feeling to know that my beautiful haircut was part of her effort to give back to the local community. Everyone likes a win-win, and the Give Back initiative is definitely a great way to continue that trend.

You can be like Chelsea and Miranda too and give to your own community of your choice through our Give Back program!

You need not be a host to sign up. As long as you have a social cause, we’d like to help!
