I first started working in ceramics as a teenager 20 years ago and I've loved pottery every since! I received my bachelor's of arts degree in ceramics and sculpture from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana, and my masters of fine arts degree in organizational leadership from Seattle University in Seattle, Washington. I have a varied background in art and nonprofit work - working in two production ceramic studios, as an art center teacher, starting a small clothing design company, collaborating on a small arts fundraising organization, and working as a manager and director at several Seattle-area nonprofits for over fifteen years. I started my business, Saltstone Ceramics in May of 2015, making pottery, offering group classes on an 8-week rotating basis, private instruction and workshops, studio rental and firing services for bisque, low, and high-fire ceramics in electric and gas kilns. In addition to ceramics, I love gardening, hiking, cooking, weightlifting, and learning new home-steading skills - I think they all fit together. Natasha Alphonse, who teaches the Tuesday night Surface Decoration class is First Nations Canadian, coming from Northern Saskatchewan and runs her own ceramic studio in Seattle, Washington. She studied Drawing and ceramics at the Alberta College of Art and Design located in Alberta, Canada and then went to Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.
